FOXES (feature film, in progress)
FOXES, Rosenfeld’s first feature film project, co- written with Brazilian filmmaker/ writer Thais Guisasola, is currently in the creative research and screen writing phase. Since 2015, Rosenfeld has been creating an extensive body of “creative research,” consisting of performance, video, and 2D works exploring the themes that she is dealing with in FOXES.
FOXES follows the story of Ruby, a 16 year old girl who is part of the last generation on earth. While Ruby grapples with what it means to be queer in the wake of a global energy crisis, humans are realizing that their own bodies are becoming the most reliable and sustainable energy sources, meanwhile, foxes are the only natural life form on the planet still procreating. FOXES is a coming of age story without a future.
(Please see below for list of works made as part of the creative research process.)
Creative body of research
Having been ensconced over the last four years with questions regarding the past, Rosenfeld’s work is now turning to questions regarding the sustainability of radical action, queered bodies, and desire in the wake of future environmental disaster. Rosenfeld has been working with these themes for the last year and half, investigating and creating a body of work, that she refers to as creative research, towards the production of her first feature film, FOXES. In addition to her ongoing research into human/ nature relationships, Rosenfeld has created short videos, collage pieces, and performances.
Whitesands Crystal Foxes (upcoming)
Whitesands Crystal Foxes (work in progress, completion date: TBD) is Rosenfeld’s final work in this creative body of research. Whitesands Crystal Foxes is a live expanded cinema installation which deconstructs the themes and images regarding climate change, and queer ecologies that Rosenfeld is exploring in her feature film. Meandering through diverse and overwhelmingly beautiful natural environments, WSCF takes its audience on what could be regarded as a hike or nature walk from the point of view of the main character in Rosenfeld’s upcoming feature film, FOXES. This work will be show with an original live sound score created by Berlin based sound artist duo Hacklander/Hatam. This project was awarded preliminary funding by Experimentalfilmförderung Medianboard Berlin- Brandenburg and is produced by Berlin based production company Amard Bird Films.
If you ask me what I want, I’ll tell you. I want everything. (upcoming)
“If You Ask Me What I Want, I’ll Tell You. I Want Everything,”is a solo performance/ dance work in progress which explores the usefulness of the human body in the face of climate change. Exploring questions around how one may apply epigenetic structures to queer positionality, Rosenfeld is challenging the idea of a solo work through creating intimate choreographies with intimate and inspirational practitioners in her life who consider movement to be at the crux of their own work. Rosenfeld will “store”these choreographies in her body, as an epigenetic experiment in how non- blood family and queer relationships pass emotions, desire and energy between bodies. This work will Premier at Sophiensaele, Berlin in November 2017 and is generously supported with a grant from the Berlin Senate.
Proliferation I & II (Live Expanded Cinema Performance), 2015
(Elusive) efforts towards a realization of (un-defined degrees of) social coition via dynamic autonomy in order to achieve eventual practical implementation of meta-jurisprudence.
Pining towards a future vision that surpasses generally accepted structural limitations of the human condition, not limited to the capabilities of the human perceptive apparatuses; the ego; dimensions of time and space; notions of gender, sexuality and other societal norms, and so on.
Building off their research into the unwanted and censored culture of the early 20th century Russian avant-garde—scientific and artistic inventions in film, electronic music, musical instruments and conceptual trans-disciplinary endeavors once destined for the trash bins due to the totalitarian regime of Stalin—sonic duo Hatam\Hacklander join forces with filmmaker and performer Liz Rosenfeld in the wake of her Foxes (performance practice research for a futuristic social fiction film) where there is an energy crisis and humans have accepted the fact that foxes are the only mammals left on earth with the ability to reproduce:
“We can only create energy for our daily need through the harnessing of sexuality. We are called to duty to devote sexual energy to the non-procreative survival of humanity.”
Text by Hacklander and Hatam
Live video projections; digital sound synthesis using SuperCollider; drums, percussion and gongs.
Proliferations I & II first premiered in 2015 at Uferstudios in Berlin, where they were conceived as part of an artist in residency program called DRECK EIN APPART where Rosenfeld was doing creative research for her upcoming feature film FOXES. Later shown in 2016 at Kampnagel, Germany and Inkonst, Sweden.
The Current State of the Future, 2015
During her participation in the DRECK EIN APPART artist residency based at Uferstudios in Berlin, Germany (2015) Liz Rosenfeld spent six weeks inhabiting the future in the midst of an energy crisis. She invited the public to come and harness their sexual energy with her. Within the parameters of this future landscape she created, Rosenfeld spent her time researching, testing and understanding how humanity can harness emotional and sexual desire in order to create energy sources for future survival. Rosenfeld collected and used participant’s bodily fluids in order to grow crystals that would be used as future energy sources over the course of her residency. She investigated how humans can continue to accept and live peacefully in this fabricated climacteric landscape alongside foxes, the only natural lifeforms left on earth able to procreate. Rosenfeld presented a series of videos and performances exploring these themes and narratives as part of creative research for her upcoming feature film FOXES.

Emotional Crystals, 2015
Liz Rosenfeld invited the public to participate in an one on one guided meditation into a future in which there is an energy crisis. Humans are called to create alternative energy sources in the form of crystals that are comprised of peoples bodily fluids produced in varying emotional states, such as tears, sweat, urine, and ejaculation fluid. This work was produced during Rosenfeld’s DRECK EIN APPART artist residency based at Uferstudios in Berlin, Germany (2015).
Mood Boards, 2015
Rosenfeld created a series of Mood Boards exploring the visual themes and inspirations in her future feature film FOXES. (Scroll through examples of Mood Board works above)
Foxes Research Videos, 2015
During her residency in DRECK DRECK EIN APPART, Rosenfeld created three-part video diary that is part of Rosenfeld’s early creative research for her upcoming feature film FOXES.
